Since the incumbent governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma assumed office as the governor of the State, it has been a cat and rat relationship between him and his immediate predecessor, Rochas Owelle Okorocha who is currently a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
While the former governor perceived the state approach towards retrieving some assets owned by him as a deliberate attack on his personality and sheer blackmail, the incumbent governor conceived it as a legitimate pursuit in ensuring that what belongs to the people of the state is utterly retrieved.
In its latest effort in ensuring that the state assets that were allegedly converted by Okorocha are completely recovered, the Imo state government has sealed the Foundation College of the former governor.
According to one of the government agents seen by Vanguard at the location of the building, the land upon which okorocha' s college is erected was originally meant for the staff quarters of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC before he allegedly converted it. He also revealed that it was one of the properties sanctioned by the court for retrieval from the former governor.
The agent also intimated that is enshrined in the white paper recommendation for the recovery of every stolen asset in the state.
Similarly, they revealed that the sealed space covers 48 hectares of land and their action is also in tandem with the government 3R (Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction), an acronym synonymous to that of the former head of state, Yakubu Gowon which later gave birth to the current National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) programme.
" We have recovered the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, which the former governor, Okorocha, took over and converted it to his Rochas Foundation College. What you are seeing now is covering 48 hectares of land and if you look at very well most of the.
" You have to know that this is also in line with the 3r of Hope Uzodimma' s administration of Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction. The recovery of Imo properties must be done and completed it is our heritage no one man should take it. " he revealed
The property is located at Orji in Owerri North local government area of the state and a bold inscription of " Keep off by Imo state government. " can be seen on it.
Can we call this an act of wickedness Iby the State government or sheer greed on the part of the serving senator?
